Rooted in Tradition, Growing with Love
Discover the rich history of Fink’s Country Farm, from its humble beginnings in the 1940s to its growth through three generations. Learn how the Fink family’s dedication and passion for farming have created a beloved community staple.
1940s
Sophie and Edward Fink met in the early 1940s in Laurel, New York, and were married in July of 1942. They purchased property in Wading River, New York, and began farming together. It was there that they built a home and opened their first farm stand.
1960s
Fink’s Farm Stand operated from the 1960s through the late 1990s. Sophie and Edward were blessed with five children: Dolores, Sophie, Edward, Thomas, and Donald. Their children developed a love and passion for farming, especially Tom.
1970s
Tom Fink helped his parents farm their land for several years before meeting his true love, Kathryn. Tom and Kathryn married in 1974 and purchased their own farm in Wading River. They renovated their stand and dreamed of sharing their love of farming with their four children: Jeanette, Kristy, Sharon, and David.
1980s
Tragedy struck in 1983 when Tom was killed in a truck accident on his way home from the market, just months after renovating their stand. Kathryn, at 27 years old, was left to work the farm and raise their four small children. She ran her own stand, Kathi’s Place, for several years.
2000s
In 2000, Kathi decided to close the stand due to the difficulty of running the farm and raising her children as a single parent. A few years later, she was forced to sell most of their land. David, Tom and Kathi’s youngest child, shared his father’s love for farming. David made a living owning a landscape and mason business, but farming remained his true passion. He met Michelle (nee Vicciardo) in 2001, and they married in 2006.
Later Years
David and Michelle purchased and adopted many farm animals and began farming the little land left from his family’s property. In 2008, they decided to lease back the family farm and ran their first fall festival. In 2015, with a lot of hard work, love, and determination, David and Michelle proudly purchased back the family’s farm. They became the third generation of Finks to own and operate the farm stand in Wading River.
